Becoming a Friend of the Rescue Helicopter helps your local rescue helicopter continue to provide a vital emergency service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

With the average cost of a mission over $8,000, your support is essential to keep this life-saving service in the air in your community.

Become a Friend of the Rescue Helicopter today, the average donation is just $75. We will keep you up-to-date with our missions, information about our crews and equipment through our newsletters, social media and website. Your donation goes directly to your local rescue helicopter.

You will also receive a donation certificate and a bumper sticker so you can proudly display your support. Remember that donations to charitable trusts like ours also qualify for a 33.33% tax rebate. We will provide you with a tax receipt for your donation.

Regular Giving

An easy and convenient way you can help is by becoming a Regular Giver to Philips Search and Rescue Trust. Regular Giving provides your local rescue helicopter with the assurance of a steady, regular level of support to help the rescue crew perform their vital and life-saving work.

Your regular donation can be as little as what it costs for a cup of coffee. You determine the amount and the frequency of giving; weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Similar to our Friends membership but with extended cover of your farm workers and their households living on the farm.

It costs as little as $120 a year to join our Rural Friend of the Rescue Helicopter programme to help keep your local helicopter in the air providing a vital emergency service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. After all, you never know when you or your family might require our services. Funds received go directly to the rescue helicopter in your region.

You will receive a donation certificate, a bumper sticker and certificate to display on your farm with your GPS coordinates to ensure that our crew can find you in an emergency when time is critical.

Flight for Life

Help your local rescue helicopter by turning livestock into life stock.

Farmers know the risks – drought in the summer, floods in the winter, fluctuating pay-outs and exchange rates, grazing conditions and the health and wellbeing of your livestock. One thing you do not have to risk is the availability of a rescue helicopter in your community.

Having access to a local rescue helicopter when you live in remote farmland areas of New Zealand can mean the difference between life and death. Every donation, regardless of size, means we can continue to offer this life-saving service to farmers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Flight Simulator Upgrade

Sim Upgrade – We need your help

Your local rescue pilots undertake unique and specialised training, including simulated (SIM) flight training.

The SIM allows your pilots to practice flying in every type of weather condition from the safety of the hangar. This ensures they are ready for all scenarios when on a real mission.

The SIM needs upgrading

The upgrade project requires a new physical SIM training environment – a replica helicopter cockpit complete with instruments and controls and a series of large projector screens to display the simulated flight – and the custom development software for New Zealand’s unique terrain and weather conditions.

This equipment will provide more realistic training scenarios – ensuring our pilots, crew and patients will return home safely.

The main advantage of training in the SIM is the huge cost saving to you – the donor. It reduces the amount of training that needs to be done in the helicopter.

With the project cost in excess of $45,000 we need your help.

We Need You

It could be you, your family, friends, staff or patrons that need us. Your support ensures the rescue helicopters are available in your community.

The Philips Search & Rescue Trust’s rescue helicopters can be airborne in 10 minutes, and in a life and death situation, this speed and agility can make all the difference. It is the timely assistance that the rescue helicopters provides that can reduce disability and improve survival - the sooner resuscitation and treatment begins the greater chance of patient recovery.

But the cost of this is huge. Philips Search & Rescue Trust’s rescue helicopters do not receive any funding from the New Zealand Government. Your local rescue helicopter does have contracts with ACC, DHB and New Zealand Police, but this only covers 47% of the operating costs. This means 53% of this must come from the community.

Without community support, your rescue helicopter would not be able to remain operational on a 24/7, 365 basis, which would mean a serious delay in people being rescued, or transported to and from hospital facilities for urgent treatment.
