On Tuesday afternoon the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked with performing a winch extraction from a waterfall located 30 mins out of Tauranga.
The crew were tasked at 3pm for a winch rescue to Omanawa Falls after a 16-year-old male had seriously injured himself.
The onboard Intensive Care Paramedic was winched down to the falls and prepared the young man for winching.
After safely extracting the patient, it was identified that he was suffering from possible back injuries. He was carefully monitored by the onboard Intensive Care Paramedic whilst being airlifted to Tauranga Hospital for immediate medical attention.
