The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was called out to assist with a pre-natal, pre-birth at 3am on Sunday morning.
The patient was a 33-year old female who was at 32 weeks Gestation and was in active labour – she had had complex births previously therefore needed to be transported as soon as possible.
The woman was from Waioru and was transported by road to Taihape, the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter arrived at Taihape Aerodrome and the patient was handed over. The crew had her loaded into the rescue helicopter and airborne within 8 mins of touching down.
The woman was transported to Whanganui Hospital without further incident.
