The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Wharepapa South at 10pm on the 15 November.
A 69 year old farmer rolled his tractor at around lunchtime and was trapped underneath.
He eventually managed to free himself but was unable to move far enough to get help due to leg and abdominal injuries.
In the evening, a bee keeper came across the injured farmer and made the call for help.
Paramedics stabilised the man before being flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment and assessment.
