Philips Search & Rescue Trust is looking for a Volunteer Crewman to join our busy Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter Team.

The Philips Search & Rescue Trust has flown more than 20,000 patients since its inception in 1985, responding to emergency ambulance and inter-hospital patient transport requests from its five rescue helicopter bases throughout New Zealand.

Based in Tauranga, you will join a team of enthusiastic and experienced Pilots and Crewmen whose roles ensure we can continue to provide an essential, life-saving service to the communities of Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty.

Although this is a voluntary position, Philips Search & Rescue Trust will invest in extensive training and support to enable you to carry out your role. In addition to providing uniform and safety gear a response vehicle will be provided to enable you to travel to and from the base when on duty.

In return Philips Search & Rescue Trust requires your commitment to the role, working 24-hour shifts, on an on-call basis. Continual currency training along with attendance at inter-service trainings is also expected.

The successful applicant must be comfortable working within the confined space of a helicopter, confident to fly in all weather conditions and possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Previous emergency service experience

• Exceptional customer service skills

• Exceptional communication skills

• Team player

• Live and work within 10 minutes of the Tauranga Hospital Hangar

Your rescue helicopter can be airborne in 10 minutes and, in a life or death situation, this speed and agility can make all the difference. The timely assistance that rescue helicopters provide can reduce disability and improve survival – the sooner treatment begins, the greater chance of patient recovery.

We are partially funded by a government contract with National Ambulance Sector Office (NASO). We rely heavily on the generosity of sponsors and the community to help fund the shortfall that allows us to be rescue ready 24/7, 365 days of the year. This crucial financial support ensures our rescue helicopter can continue to bring life-saving equipment, rescue personnel, and intensive care paramedics directly to the patient.

Without your support, your rescue helicopter would not be able to remain operational on a 24/7, 365 day a year basis. This could mean a serious delay in people being rescued or transported to hospital for urgent treatment.
