The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Tangimoana in the early evening on Tuesday.
A man in his late 60’s had his dog swept down a river and had jumped in the river to save the dog. The man and dog came to rest on the river bank edge that happened to be under steep terrain meaning they could not climb out to safety.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Police and the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter were all at the scene. The team ready to winch extract however, a call was made by the scene manager to use the Fire and Emergency NZ ropes crew to extract the patient.
Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter’s Intensive Care Paramedic was able to assess the patient post his extraction. No further action was required.
