On Wednesday at around 4.45pm the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident, involving a single-vehicle crash on Upland Rd, Egmont Village, south of New Plymouth.
A teenage boy was trapped in the vehicle and required careful extraction from Fire and Emergency New Zealand. The St John Intensive Care Paramedic assisted the onboard Intensive Care Paramedic in performing an RSI on the patient. This allowed the patient’s breathing to be supported whilst the crew airlifted him to safety.
The patient was airlifted through to the Emergency Department at Waikato Hospital for immediate medical care.
