A 17-year old female tramper, who was part of a Scout group, tripped on a tree route and badly injured her lower leg this evening.
The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter was dispatched to the Kaimai ranges near the settlement of TePoi at 6:30 pm to assist.
A LandSAR team member carried her to a location where the helicopter could land. St John paramedics stabilised her at the scene before she was flown to Tauranga hospital for further treatment.
The helicopter was called due to the terrain and time to get her to hospital.
