The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Mt Ngauruhoe where it was reported a young girl in a school tramping party had fallen and injured herself.
Due to the injuries sustained by the girl and the difficult terrain the crew winched the onboard Intensive Care Paramedic (ICP) down to assess the young girl.
The ICP was able to treat the injury and provide pain relief so the girl could be winched to safety.
The girl was airlifted to Whanganui Hospital for further treatment.
